People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe. ~ Simon Sinek
It is often helpful to revisit one’s purpose in life, and in doing so, it is important to identify beliefs and assumptions that are foundational to our purpose.
As Simon Sinek so eloquently stated, our actions and words are driven by these underlying beliefs. They are our “WHY” and serve as building blocks that support our self-defined purpose.
It therefore seems only appropriate that we offer this point of reference regarding our overarching beliefs and assumptions as a prelude to what follows, because everything that follows is a manifestation of our foundational assumptions.
We, the coaches at Line of Sight Coaching, believe the following:
-
We believe that true leadership matters more than ever.
In a world seemingly overrun with false prophets and pseudo leadership, it is only natural that we have become cynical observers of the unmet promises and the inconsistencies of words and deeds displayed by those who claim to lead. Along with this deep disillusionment is a prevalent and compelling inclination to reject leadership and all that it stands for.
The truth is that our current state of skepticism is the result of a massive failure of leadership, and ironically, it is true leadership that will provide the cure.
If leadership is destined to ever return to a position of worth and respect it will be through leaders who honor values, stewardship, and servanthood. These same leaders will reject a self-serving, zero-sum, philosophy for one of abundance based in servant leadership.
We have seen, time and time again, the valuable impact that true leadership can have for organizations. Our mission is to spread the word that true leadership matters.
-
We believe that everyone can lead.
Introvert? Extrovert? It doesn’t matter. Leadership is about becoming the authentic you and finding a style that complements your personality. History has shown that even the meekest among us can lead effectively.
Becoming acutely self-aware of how we show up for those we lead and mitigating harmful reactive tendencies that diminish our ability to lead effectively is the starting point for everyone’s leadership journey.
-
We believe clients possess the knowledge necessary to resolve their issues.
Rather than advisers or teachers, we see ourselves as facilitators in the process of self-awareness and self-discovery. We believe that humans are whole, resourceful, and creative and therefore capable of making the best possible decisions that serve their own unique needs.
As facilitators, we help clients identify and remove mental barriers like self-limiting beliefs, blind spots, and personal bias that prevents them from accessing a clear perspective and the wealth of knowledge they already possess.
-
We believe that leadership should not be a solo endeavor.
We view leadership as a team sport, and as such, we strive to facilitate leadership development for every member of a team. Even though many of us struggle with sharing leadership, it is the surest way to develop peak performing teams. When we create leadership teams within our practices and support their ability to think and act independently of us, we remove ourselves as a bottleneck that inhibits our practice’s efficiency and growth.
-
We believe that leaders have a mission.
We believe that a leader’s mission is not to acquire more followers, but rather to develop more leaders. We do this by adopting a philosophy of abundance that compels us to ensure the success of those we serve. Although this philosophy is based on true altruism, it has been our personal experience that the more we give to others, the more we receive in return.
-
We believe in the transformational power of leadership.
Each of the coaches at Line of sight Coaching has their own personal stories of transformation through leadership. Some of us have experienced personal transformation, and each of us has observed the incredible transformational power of effective leadership within organizations.
When servant leaders create organizational cultures that emphasize and promote individual growth, something magical happens. Individuals begin to believe that they are better off for being part of the organization. They commit to the organization’s goals and purpose set forth by their leader, not because they fear their leader, but rather, because they trust and believe in him or her.
Seeing organizations and their teams transformed through leadership is our greatest joy and the driving force behind our purpose.
-
We believe that leadership’s lessons go far beyond our practice.
Becoming a better leader makes us a better person, a better citizen, and a better parent and mentor. We strongly emphasize the importance of taking the gifts of leadership home to our communities and families and sharing these gifts with our children and loved ones. Sharing the promise of leadership may be the greatest gift and legacy that we leave for those who follow.
Having these shared beliefs as perpetual reference points allows us, the coaches at Line of Sight Coaching, to live out our self-defined purpose. They provide clarity and breathe life into the words we chose to define our purpose.
Our Purpose at Line of Sight Coaching:
Is to develop doctors who are committed to their evolution as transformational leaders.
