Include a coach in your personal and professional game plan
Do you seem to never get exactly what it is you want from life or you feel burned out in your work? Do you feel like you’re being pulled in different directions by the demands of your work and family? Would you like to be living a specific dream or goal and, yet, because of time constraints, you feel like the gerbil on that constantly revolving wheel? Do you ever feel like you just can’t seem to get on a track that will ensure your financial security or are you currently in a profession or job that is unsatisfying?
Perhaps a Personal Business Coach may be the solution.
As Americans put up with less and expect more out of life, many are discovering that they can have a willing and supportive partner in a professional coach. Having it all is just the beginning. Coaching is becoming popular as our time becomes more valuable. Today, many of us are impatient with the steep learning curve of life. What would it be like to be wise, happy and successful THIS year versus waiting for a decade or two? The compelling reason that people have for hiring a personal coach is that they are impatient in waiting to achieve their personal and business goals and aspirations.
A coach is an outside expert hired to help you get what you want most, in a healthier, more productive and sustainable way. Part mentor, part motivational speaker, part “reality-checker” and guide, coaches work with managers, entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals, and individuals. They help them define and achieve their goals – career, personal or, most often, both.
Coaches develop a personal partnership with their clients that is different from the relationship people have with a therapist, a consultant or even a friend. The client will use the coach to set bigger goals, achieve them faster and with much less stress. Thomas Leonard, founder of Coach University, explains that the reason this all works is because a coach helps a client stay in action. A coach is like a quiet, small voice saying, “Are you doing what you want to be doing? What have you done this week to accomplish your goal?” The coach keeps them on track.
Born out of the competitive pressures of today’s economy, as well as the struggle to find balance in the frenzied pace of modern life, coaching is helping people grapple with life issues. Business and personal coaching includes many of the principles from sports coaching. It includes things like teamwork, going for the goal, and being the best version of yourself in your personal and professional life. However, unlike sports coaching, personal and business coaching is not competition or win/lose based. Personal business coaches focus on strengthening their client’s inherent skills, not on helping them beat the other team. Coaches look for win/win solutions. They help their clients in many individualized ways. For instance, a coach will work with clients who are in career transition, clients with business and practice issues, managers and executives who want to take their organization to the next level, or an entrepreneur who is ready to double his/her business.
There are those individuals who believe that they can do it all on their own. In some cases, this may be true, yet self-help is a distant second to coaching. For many of us, we do not have the patience to work on oneself all by ourselves. That is the old way. Even the best Olympic athletes ALL have a coach that they have bonded with, who brings out their best.
All of this being said, it is important to note that I am a grateful beneficiary of coaching. Even today, being a certified coach myself, I still meet twice a month with my own professional coach. Coaching has altered my life and changed it for the better. Doesn’t everyone deserve to have a coach who helps them create and become the very best version of themselves? Why wait to enrich your life? Include hiring a coach in your personal and professional game plan for the coming year.
