According to Forbes, corporate America spent more than 166 Billion dollars on leadership training in the 2019 calendar year.
What makes this information so interesting is that historically leadership training has been mostly ineffective in creating impactful leaders.
Fortunately, recent changes in leadership development methods are showing greater promise for future leaders. Rather than teaching specific techniques, once the preferred method for training leaders, leadership development programs are now focusing on a leader’s unique style and authenticity over technique.
What we are coming to realize is that specific leadership techniques are only effective if they complement the leader’s unique style and authentic self. Any attempt to lead that does not align with a leader’s style or appears inauthentic will prove to be ineffective.
